On November 22, 2013 a group of internationally recognized scientists contributed to a “Farewell Symposium” organized in honour of Vic Small by Klemens Rottner (Bonn University), Michael Sixt (IST Austria, Klosterneuburg) and IMBA (Vienna).
Over 100 people attended the scientific symposium and the evening reception and dinner. The scientific directors of IMBA (Josef Penninger) and IMP (Jan-Michael Peters) gave separate laudatios and presented Vic with a telescope and a classic travel treatise to keep him busy at night. A large cake, beautifully embossed with both a telescope and a microscope was specially made for the occasion.
On the following day, Guenter Resch organized a guided tour of the Urania Observatory followed by lunch at a Viennese Restaurant for Vic and his wife Michaela, together with a large collection of Alumni from Vic’s labs in Salzburg and Vienna. Vic and his wife were treated with vouchers for a spa weekend to ease the transition into the retirement phase.
